Kamala Harris gives tepid Zohran Mamdani endorsement

Former Democratic party presidential nominee Kamala Harris gave a lukewarm endorsement of mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani during a Monday night MSNBC interview with Rachel Maddow.

Harris told Maddow she’s optimistic about rising stars in her party, but curbed her enthusiasm when asked about “mainline Democratic shyness and agitation” about Mandami possibly becoming New York City’s next mayor.

“Look, as far as I’m concerned, he’s the Democratic nominee and he should be supported,” Harris said in a transcript rushed to national media Monday night.

Polling shows the 33-year-old State Assemblyman leading incumbent Eric Adams, former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa with Election Day roughly six weeks away.

When asked if she supports Mamdani’s candidacy, Harris replied “sure” she’s pulling for a Democrat to win, but feels there are candidates in places like Mobile, AL. and New Orleans she wants the public paying attention to as well.

“Let me just say this. He’s not the only star. I know that he’s in New York, and I know New Yorkers think they’re the center of the world, and here we are in New York having this interview,” she said.

When Maddow pointed out New York City is the biggest city in the nation, Harris gave Gotham some love.

“And I love New York, as the saying goes,” she said. “I really do.”
