Kanye West has made it clear that there is still bad blood between him and Taylor Swift.
The controversial rapper, 47, took to X on Monday to explain why he has never headlined a Super Bowl halftime show, claiming the “Anti-Hero” singer, 35, is one of the three reasons why.
“I never was allowed to do the Super Bowl because of three moments,” West claimed in the since-deleted tweet, according to Page Six. “George Bush don’t care about Black people. The Taylor Swift movement moment. Wearing a MAGA hat.”
“How it feel to be the best living and blocked from the main stage because of being ahead of my time,” he added. “(And I mean all of this was before I went full Nazi of course).”
West and Swift’s feud started in 2009 when the “College Dropout” rapper interrupted the “Love Story” singer as she gave her acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you. I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” West said after rushing the VMAs stage and stealing the microphone from Swift. “One of the best videos of all time!”
The “Cruel Summer” singer later admitted that she “wasn’t so excited” to have West interrupt her speech at the time.
“I was standing onstage, and I was really excited because I had just won the award, and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on the stage,” she told reporters after the ceremony, “and then I wasn’t so excited anymore.”
West later threw more shade at the “Shake It Off” singer in 2016 when he released his song “Famous.”
“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” he sang. “Why? I made that bitch famous. Goddamn, I made that bitch famous.”
Swift discussed both shocking moments in 2023 after being named TIME’s Person of the Year.
“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before,” Swift told the magazine. “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
More recently, West criticized Swift after she was seen dancing along to Kendrick Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us” at the 2025 Grammy Awards in February.
“IF ITS ABOUT THE CULTURE,” he tweeted before temporarily deleting his X account, “WHY ARE WE LETTING TAYLOR SWIFT BE SEEN ON TV SINGING A SONG ABOUT TAKING A BLACK MAN DOWN AND ACCUSING OF THINGS THAT CAN TAKE A BLACK MAN DOWN FOR LIFE,”
Besides Swift, West also blamed his remarks about President George W. Bush and “wearing a MAGA hat” for why he has never been asked to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
The “Stronger” rapper raised eyebrows in 2005 when he claimed that “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” during a nationally televised telethon benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims.
As for his claims about “wearing a MAGA hat,” West has been a strong supporter of President Donald Trump ever since the businessman-turned-politician first ran for office in 2016.
While West has never headlined a Super Bowl halftime show, neither has Swift – although she was in attendance during this year’s big game to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
The “Power” rapper has since faced renewed backlash after going on a spate of antisemitic rants on X.
While West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, called his remarks “disturbing,” his current wife, Bianca Censori, reportedly left him over over the shocking comments.
