Katy Perry very nearly fell atop a crowd in San Francisco Friday night during a midair stunt as part of her Lifetimes Tour.
The malfunction occurred during the pop star’s performance of “Roar,” as she sat atop a mechanical butterfly that soared over the audience and abruptly began to drop, according to fan footage shared online. The crowd then applauded when Perry braced herself as the prop slowly but surely steadied.

“Goodnight San Fran,” the Grammy nominee wrote on her Instagram Story, captioning a blurred photo of herself looking horrified during the incident.
The mishap occurred weeks after a similar one involving a flying sphere that Perry rode during one of her recent shows in Australia, reported NBC News.
It’s been a rough year thus far for Perry, whose all-female Blue Origin space flight in April — alongside Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez — has been widely mocked and criticized.
In June, following speculation that she and Orlando Bloom had split for good after nine years on and off, sources confirmed they’d indeed called off their engagement.
Their respective reps released a joint statement earlier this month, saying the stars had been “shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting” their 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
Perry’s reps did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment about the malfunction and whether she intends to continue using that prop in future shows.
