Nearly three months after taking the stand to testify in the federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kid Cudi is admitting that he “hated every minute of it.”
“I did not want to do it, but then I thought about — when I was up there — I’m here to support Cassie,” the rapper said on Wednesday’s episode of Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
“Cassie is my friend, and I love her and I want to see her do well,” he added.
Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, also revealed that he turned down testifying in the high-profile trial twice before he was subpoenaed to take the stand.
The 41-year-old testified against Combs on May 22, detailing his brief romance with Combs’ ex Cassie Ventura. Cudi recalled moments when Combs’ was “abusive” to Cassie during their on-and-off relationship.
“I know she was living a nightmare,” Cudi continued on the podcast. “I just was there to support her. That’s what, kind of, gave me peace with [testifying]. When I sat down in that chair, it was just about, ‘Damn, I don’t want to do this’ … to being like, ‘Oh man, I got to hold homegirl down and look out for her.’”
During Ventura’s testimony, the singer revealed the pair briefly dated in 2011 during a time when things between her and Diddy were “not in a good place.”
Upon learning of her relationship with Cudi, she said Combs told her “he was going to hurt” the two of them and blow up Cudi’s car.
In January 2012, Cudi’s Porsche was found engulfed in flames by what police described as an “incendiary device,” though no suspects were ever arrested in the case. Cudi also testified that Diddy broke into his house and threatened his life.
“In the moment it was just crazy,” Cudi told Alex Cooper. “I had a hard time understanding if it was reality. I was like, ‘Am I in a movie? What the f–k is going on?’ … It was just chaotic and intense.”
Combs was arrested in New York City in September 2024 and his trial began in May. After nearly eight weeks of testimony, he was found guilty on two prostitution-related charges but was acquitted of the sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him in prison for life.
Combs has been denied bail and will remain behind bars until his sentencing on Oct. 3. The charges carry a range of no time in prison to a maximum of 20 years.
