Welcome back to New York, Landry Shamet.
The Knicks are reportedly bringing back the veteran three-and-D wing using their final minimum salary slot on a roster built to compete for an NBA championship, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Which means, barring a trade, the Knicks’ 2025–26 regular-season roster is now set, with Shamet returning as the 10th man on a team supporting All-Stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Shamet carved out a key role in the Knicks’ postseason run, helping swing momentum in the Eastern Conference Finals after the team — using a shortened rotation under head coach Tom Thibodeau — fell into an 0–2 hole against the Indiana Pacers.
He averaged 5.7 points on 39.7% shooting from three across 50 games last season, bouncing back from a dislocated shoulder that sidelined him during the preseason and early regular season.
The signing adds another floor spacer, a gritty on-ball defender and a player with a proven playoff résumé. It’s a low-risk, high-reward move to round out the Knicks’ rotation, a familiar face returning after a productive end to his season.
And now, Mike Brown has more lineup flexibility than his predecessor ever had.
Brunson, Towns, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby are locked in as starters. From there, Brown can mix and match with Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, Jordan Clarkson, Guerschon Yabusele, Miles McBride, and now Shamet, giving the Knicks a versatile, two-way second unit with real shooting and defensive bite.
Second-year players Pacome Dadiet, Tyler Kolek, and Ariel Hukporti remain developmental options, with Hukporti expected to reprise his role as the third center after recovering from a torn meniscus (though the Knicks could turn to Yabusele as a small-ball five, a role he played during Joel Embiid’s extended absence in Philadelphia).
The Knicks still have enough flexibility beneath the second apron to sign a rookie to a minimum contract. But to add another veteran, they would first need to clear a roster spot and salary via trade.
The Shamet signing follows preliminary discussions between the Knicks and Ben Simmons, who New York held initial interest in before the embattled former Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star began contemplating his NBA future.
While the Knicks expressed interest, they never made a formal contract offer.
