Just as their season seemed to be getting on track, the Mets disappointed in a four-game set against the Marlins.
A series after a huge sweep of the Phillies, Kodai Senga was roughed up once again as the Amazins fell 5-1 to The Fish, dropping three out of four at Citi Field. Senga tossed 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out six.
It’s the second straight outing where Senga was unable to get out of the fifth inning. Agustin Ramirez was the culprit once again as his two-run shot in the third gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Miami scored their final run in the fifth on some bad defense by Brett Baty, who overthrew Pete Alonso on Xavier Edwards‘ bunt single.
Brandon Waddell performed mop-up duty for Senga in an effective fashion. The left-hander tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, keeping the Mets in the ballgame. However, their offense was unable to answer the call.
The Mets’ lone run came on an RBI groundout by Cedric Mullins in the seventh inning as they had no answer for Sandy Alcantara. The righty tossed seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits with six strikeouts.
Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil were the lone Mets to register hits on the afternoon.
Carlos Mendoza’s squad has a tough opponent on deck as the club will head to Detroit to take on the Tigers. Sean Manaea will take the ball on Labor Day against Charlie Morton for AJ Hinch’s team.
