‘KPop Demon Hunters’ star reveals his sequel idea: ‘One in the works right now’

Joel Kim Booster’s idea for a sequel is nothing short of golden.

The comedian, 37, starred in one of the most buzzed about movies of the year, the animated musical action “KPop Demon Hunters.”

After voicing Romance Saja, a demonic member of the K-Pop group, the Saja Boys, Booster sees room for his character to be featured in a follow-up film.

“I will say, for posterity sake, that my Saja boy, Romance Saja, is one of the only Saja boys that does not die on screen,” the actor teased to The Post while promoting his collaboration with Cup Noodles.

“So, we don’t know what happened to Romance. Maybe the sequel could really bring back some of the OG Saja Boys and see what they’re doing these days,” he continued. “I would gladly come back and voice him again.”

At the moment, however, Booster hasn’t “been involved in any of the discussions about the sequel yet.”

“But I know that they’d be fools not to make one,” he added. “And I know that there’s one in the works right now.”

The wildly popular project follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey who moonlight as demon hunters “to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger,” per the synopsis.

After the movie hit Netflix, the streaming platform released a sing-along version in Big Apple theaters over the summer.

Now, the song “Golden” has made the Oscars shortlist for Best Original Song.

As for why the movie has resonated so deeply with audiences, Booster called it a “combination of factors.”

“I think it is really beautiful,” he continued. “I think the animation style is really gorgeous, and I think it really highlights the fact that so much of the animation that’s coming out right now is really cheap and you take for granted how beautiful it can be when the work is put into it. The music is a huge part of that, obviously.”

“Stories and movies where the character at the center of the story is supposed to be extremely talented in one way or another — it is really hard to pull that off,” further explained. “Movies that center on comedians or designers or artists of any kind, it’s really hard to display that they are good at whatever outlet they’re supposed to be good at in the movie. So I think they really hit that out of the park. You cannot escape ‘Golden’ even if you wanted to!”

Of course, Booster had to give credit where credit is due: the writing.

“The story is so simple and so universal. This is one of those great movies that you can watch with your entire family and there’s something in there for everybody. It is like a timeless story of wanting to belong and finding the family that will accept you no matter what.”

“We all have a desire for that and see that in ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ and want that,” Booster added.

Prior to “KPop Demon Hunters,” the writer has been booked and busy starring in the fan-favorite Apple TV+ sitcom “Loot.”

The comedy series, which just aired its Season 3 finale on Dec. 10, follows the life of Molly Novak (Maya Rudolph) after she divorces her husband of 20 years and ends up with a $87 billion settlement.

For Booster, working alongside the actress, 53, has been nothing short of a dream.

“One of my biggest core memories of working with Maya is when we were shooting season one, I had just started dating my fiancé. And I remember I was so anxious about it,” he recalled. “I remember talking to Maya about this incessantly the first season when we were shooting, and she gave me so much great advice, and she barely even knew me at that point.”

It’s safe to say Rudolph knew a thing or two, having been in a longterm relationship with partner Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001.

“She’s Maya Rudolph,” gushed Booster. “I had no business peppering her with questions about how to make it work, but she’s been in a very long, successful relationship. I thought it was very sweet that she actually engaged with me and actually gave me advice.”

And Rudolph’s advice was very simple. As the “SNL” alum told Booster: “Chill out.”

Along with a close-knit cast, the fashions on “Loot” are top tier.

“A few things here and there they’ve let me sneak off with,” Booster told The Post. “Kirston Mann, who’s our costume designer, is a genius. And the thing about her is she’s got such a good eye. So much of the stuff that I wear, I would say about 40 percent of it, is actual designer runway ready.”

The other half consists of looks from ASOS and H&M.

“She manages to find the single pieces at those stores that actually look really elevated and look really expensive. So she’s definitely let me take some of the H&M.”

He quipped: “Anything that’s a real label — it’s like Fort Knox. I’m never getting away with any of it.”
