Kristin Davis remembers one conversation she’ll never forget from the set of “Sex and the City.”
Davis, 60, revealed that the show’s creators, Darren Star and Michael Patrick King, once asked her and co-star Cynthia Nixon, 58, “how they felt” about performing fellatio.
She opened up about the touchy topic on the Sunday, March 23, episode of her “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast.
“Cynthia had remembered that when that episode was happening,” Davis recalled while discussing the rom-com’s seventh episode.
She continued, “That Darren and Michael Patrick came to us independently, each one of us, and said, ‘You know, how do you guys feel about [performing oral sex on men]? Because we’re trying to write this, but we realized that we’re gay men and you guys are straight women. Can you share with us your thoughts?’”
While the actress – who played Charlotte York on the hit show –said that the conversation was a bit hard to remember, she admitted that she “didn’t” tell Star and King that she “didn’t like” giving oral sex.
“I guess we all said our different things,” she told podcast guest Oliver Hudson, 48. “And I know that I didn’t say that I didn’t like it, because I wouldn’t really say that.
“I might have said, ‘I don’t like someone pushing my head down,’ because definitely who likes that? Nobody, as far as I know,” Davis added. “But I didn’t remember that either.”
The episode in question, titled “The Monogamists,” saw Davis’ character tell a boyfriend that she was not a fan of performing oral sex – a preference that changes for Charlotte later in the show.
“There are different women who want different things and this is fine, just like there are different men who want different things,” the “Couples Retreat” actress explained.
“You have to figure out the person that you’re with and whether you were into that,” she continued, “like with Charlotte in this particular episode apparently, which I have forgotten.”
“Charlotte doesn’t like to give [oral sex on men],” Davis added, “which I think she gets over.”
While Davis’ fan-favorite character didn’t like giving oral sex in 1998 when the first season of “Sex and the City” aired, Charlotte’s bias certainly changed by the time the “And Just Like That…” spinoff premiered in 2021.
“She’s in this incredible relationship with Harry and there is a scene in ‘And Just Like That…’ involving a prosthetic with [oral sex] that she is 100 percent willing and initiates and is into,” Davis told Hudson. “So thank God she got over whatever that was.”
The “Deck the Halls” actress’ NSFW chat about “Sex and the City” came months after Davis revealed she “didn’t feel protected” while filming intimate scenes for the show.
She recalled having to simulate sex without having the protection of intimacy coordinators and felt “confused” with the number of sex scenes that were shot.
“I did not feel protected,” Davis said in February. “I had to hide in my dressing room at the end of the scenario. I had to hide in my dressing room and call my manager in LA, at 2 in the morning.”
HBO Max has revealed that the third season of “And Just Like That…” is expected to premiere later this year.
