L.A. Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia, wife reveal death of newborn daughter

Los Angeles Dodgers player Alex Vesia and his wife announced that their first child together, a baby girl, died last month.

The couple shared in a heartbreaking Instagram post Friday that “beautiful daughter” Sterling Sol Vesia “went to heaven Sunday October 26th.”

“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” Vesia, 29, and his wife, captioned a black-and-white image of the baby’s hand and her parents’. “There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her. … We’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”

The Vesias also thanked the World Series-winning team “for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”

The grieving parents thanked “Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support,” adding they’ve “seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”

The Dodgers commented on the post, “Thinking of you all and sending so much love.” The team’s official account also shared the post on its Instagram Story.

On Oct. 23, the day before the World Series began, the team announced “with a heavy heart … that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter.

“The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date,” continued the statement.

The Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays last Saturday, marking their second consecutive World Series win after besting the New York Yankees in 2024.
