Larry David’s ex-wife insults his TV ex-wife Cheryl Hines

Larry David’s ex-wife, Laurie David, accused his TV wife Cheryl Hines of “setting women back” by standing by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as he awaits Senate confirmation to become the nation’s next Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Cheryl Hines in her best and most watched performance yet as the ‘dutiful, adoring wife’ setting women back decades,” David posted on Threads after Hines sat behind her husband during his Senate nomination hearing.

That contentious hearing saw the polarizing 71-year-old political royal claim he agrees with President Trump’s claim that “every abortion is a tragedy” and that reproductive right laws should be decided on the state level. During his first term as president, Trump built a Supreme Court that overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that made abortion accessible to women throughout the country.

Hines, who played Larry David’s long-suffering wife on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” from 2000 to 2024, also stood by her real-life husband of 10 years when he was accused last year of having engaged in a sexually charged texting relationship with political reporter Olivia Nuzzi. An RFK Jr. representative denied the alleged flirtation.

Laurie David didn’t expound on her accusation. Hines’ representative declined to comment.

RFK Jr. has said that he and his wife sometimes agree to disagree when it comes to politics. She was supportive of his brief 2024 presidential campaign, which Hines called “eye opening” in a social media post after RFK Jr. left the race to endorse Trump.

“It’s been my experience that the vast majority of all [political] parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other,” she wrote.

Cheryl David, played by Hines, divorced the TV version of Larry David at the start of the show’s eighth season.

In real life, Laurie David filed for divorce from her husband of 14 years in January 2019, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
