LI drunk driving suspect was holding a 5-month-old baby

A 25-year-old Long Island man is accused of driving drunk while holding a 5-month-old boy in Roosevelt.

Nassau County police arrested Luis Monge Saldivar around 9:43 p.m. Saturday night after they said his 2004 Chevrolet was spotted swerving in and out of its lane. Cops said the suspect surrendered without incident and the baby was placed in the care of a family member.

Saldivar is accused of violating Leandra’s Law honoring 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed while riding in a car driven by one of her mother’s intoxicated friends. That law calls for stricter penalties in case where children are endangered by a drunk driver.

Rosada and six of her friends were headed to a slumber party in the Bronx when the vehicle they were in crashed on the Henry Hudson Parkway in 2009.

The Nassau County Police Department warned on Facebook that drivers who break the law will be arrested, their cars will be impounded and Child Protective Services could get involved.
