Police responded to a home on West White Street just before 5:30 p.m. following reports of a stabbing.

Responding officers arrived and found Velasquez, 59, dead from multiple stab wounds, officials said.

One Brentwood resident told News 12 Long Island that the victim was found “upstairs”  with “a bunch of knives sticking out of her.”

Kurumoglu was arrested Wednesday afternoon and held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip, court records show.

The fatal stabbing took place at a home located across the street from North Elementary School, prompting Brentwood Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera to issue a statement assuring the community that the event was unrelated to the school.

“All students and staff are safe,’ Ortiz-Rivera said Wednesday, adding that the school would remain open and operating on a regular schedule.
