Liam Payne, Toby Keith honored at Grammys 2025 In Memoriam

The Grammys 2025 honored the ones we’ve lost.

The In Memoriam segment featured Chris Martin singing the Coldplay song “All My Love” as the ceremony honored music stars who died over the past year, including Liam Payne and Toby Keith.

The tribute began with snippets of footage of Payne including from his time as a member of One Direction.

Martin’s performance then honored more Grammy winners who passed last year, including Kris Kristofferson, Steven Albini, Cissy Houston, John Mayall, Dickey Betts, Angela Bofill, Joe Bonsall, Fatman Scoop, Sandra Crouch, Richard Sherman, Joe Chambers, Duane Eddy, Sam Moore, Frankie Beverley, Rich Homie Quan, Bob Newhart and Wayne Osmond.

Payne, meanwhile, tragically died at age 31 on Oct. 16, 2024. He fell to his death from the third floor of his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Medical officials confirmed that the star had a “cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

Witnesses told TMZ that Payne was acting “erratic” before his sudden passing. He allegedly smashed his laptop in the hotel lobby and was carried back to his room before the fall.

Payne’s autopsy later determined the singer had a toxic mixture of drugs in his system, including crack and so-called “pink cocaine” — a mix of ketamine and other drugs.

Five people have been charged in connection with Payne’s death, including his friend, Roger Nores, and the hotel’s receptionist and head of security.

After news of Payne’s death, his One Direction bandmates — Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan — released a joint statement on their official Instagram band account.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say,” they wrote. “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”

The four former boy band members all attended Payne’s private funeral in Amersham, England, in Nov. 2024.

The somber reunion marked the first time the pop stars were all together since Malik left One Direction in 2015. The band then went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
