Fans are looking back at a heartbreaking message Liam Payne wrote online years prior to his tragic death at 31.
“If I died would you come to ma funeral …?” he penned on X, formerly Twitter, in 2010.
The tweet resurfaced a day after a private funeral was held for the late pop star on Wednesday.
Payne’s former One Direction bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Harry Styles were all in attendance at the UK ceremony.
Also at the Amersham, England, memorial service was Simon Cowell, 65, who formed One Direction on “The X Factor.”
The music mogul was photographed embracing Payne’s parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, as the grieving father wrapped his arm tightly around Cowell.

Cowell was also pictured looking somber while walking hand in hand with his fiancée, Lauren Silverman.
Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was also photographed alongside Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian and Payne’s ex Cheryl Cole, who is the mother of his son Bear. The seven-year-old did not appear to be there.
Last month, Cole penned an emotional message in the wake of the singer’s death.
“As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” she wrote via Instagram alongside a throwback photo of Payne with a newborn Bear in bed at the time.
“Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the harsh reality of never seeing his father again,” she continued, noting “I am begging you.”
“Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them. Please give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last.”
Earlier this month, Payne’s body was brought back to the UK ahead of his funeral. The former One Direction member’s body had been held in Argentina since his passing. The release of Payne’s body was initially delayed until the completion of the toxicology tests.
On Oct. 16, Payne died suddenly after plunging off a hotel balcony in Argentina. Medical officials confirmed that the star had a “cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”
At the time, witnesses told TMZ that Payne was acting “erratic” before his sudden passing. He allegedly smashed his laptop in the hotel lobby and was carried back to his room before the fall.
Earlier this month, TMZ reported that Argentine police have raided the homes of two CasaSur Palermo hotel employees, and the residence of one of his other “friends,” as part of their investigation to track down who sold him drugs.
