Three commuters reported injuries after a LIRR train struck a vehicle on the tracks in Nassau County on Monday night.
The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. near Farmingdale when a train traveling from Jamaica to Ronkonkoma hit a stalled car at the Little East Neck Road crossing just past the Pinelawn station, transit police said. The wreck set the vehicle on fire.
Three adult passengers on the train reported injuries. One was treated at the scene and two others were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital. No additional information about their conditions was released.
The occupants of the vehicle were able to get out of the car before the collision. It remains unclear how the car became stalled on the tracks, but an investigation is ongoing.
The train passengers were bussed to their destinations.
The line was suspended in both directions while crews cleared the area and repairs were made to the tracks. Service resumed Tuesday morning with delays and train rerouted around the crash site between Farmingdale and Deer Park.
Buses were still running between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma on Tuesday.
The crash occurred several hours before a man was clipped by a train at the Times Square station and killed when he was dragged under the wheels.
