Lizzo made a not-so-subtle jab at President Trump’s tariffs during her “Saturday Night Live” appearance this weekend — taking the stage in a shirt that read “TARIFFIED.”
The singer commanded attention for more than one reason Saturday at her first SNL show since getting swept up into a legal battle after three of her former backup dancers accused her of sexual harassment, body shaming, and creating a hostile work environment — allegations she has firmly denied.
Lizzo gave a rousing performance of her new song, “Still Bad,” on the sketch show, which was hosted by actor Jon Hamm.
While performing, the 36-year-old “Truth Hurts” singer donned a crop top reading “TARIFFIED” in large red letters, taking a clear swipe at Trump’s economic policies.
The Internet was quick with its split response to the singer’s shirt, with some calling her out as “trying to be relatable.”
Fans, however, seemed thrilled by the move, with one person writing, “Okay, this is iconic, idc what anyone says.”
Another commentator related the situation to her apparent weight loss, writing, “She slimmed down just like Trump’s tariffs package.”
The singer later wore a similar shirt during the show’s closing that read “black women were right.”
