A Long Island mother suffered a partially collapsed lung after her 12-year-old son stabbed her twice with a kitchen knife.
The unidentified victim was in stable condition in a southwest Long Island hospital Thursday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Detectives said the assault occurred Tuesday night when the child and his 48-year-old mom became involved in a verbal dispute in the their Valley Stream residence. The alleged assailant reportedly became violent when that argument intensified around 9:20 p.m.
The boy was charged with first-degree assault and arraigned Wednesday in a Mineola family court, according to officials.
Suffolk County Police arrested a 30-year-old man for stabbing his mom last week in Brentwood. The victim, 59-year-old Melida Velasquez, didn’t survive her wounds. A neighbor told local news Velasquez was found with “a bunch of knives sticking out of her” after that Sept. 10 attack.
