Long Island man, 21, arrested for Brentwood parking lot murder

A Long Island man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after another man was found dead in a parking lot over the weekend, police said Tuesday.

Alex Reyes, 21, was nabbed Monday night in connection with the killing of Alexander Velasquez, 46, in Brentwood, according to Patch.

Velasquez was found dead on the ground in a parking lot early Sunday morning outside Tony’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, about 35 miles east of Central Park.

Cops quickly launched a criminal investigation and identified Reyes as the suspect, but have not released any details about Velasquez’s death or any information about a prior relationship between the two men.

Frank Sciara, who owns Tony’s Pizzeria, told Newsday he didn’t witness anything himself and hadn’t learned anything from police. His shop was closed for hours on Sunday as officers investigated the nearby scene. Sciara has owned the shop for nearly three decades but told Newsday he’d never seen anything like Sunday’s scene.

Brentwood was the site of a chaotic incident back in April, when retired NYC corrections officer Brent Boyd sprinted at cops while holding a knife, according to authorities. Responding officers fatally shot 54-year-old Boyd outside of his home on Wurz Street.
