A Long Island man was sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexually abusing his 8-year-old daughter, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Bay Shore man, who hasn’t been named to protect the victim’s identity, is accused of abusing the girl multiple times between October 2021 and November 2022, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
The victim, who was 8 years old when the abuse started, lived with her mother and father on alternating weekly schedules, prosecutors said.
On the weeks she was in her father’s care, he “engaged in acts of sexual abuse against his daughter,” according to the district attorney’s office. He also warned her that she would face violence if she ever told anyone about the abuse.
In the fall of 2022, the girl’s mother noticed she was becoming “extremely anxious” about visiting her father, prosecutors said.
The girl eventually told her mother about the incidents in November of that year. The mother then reported the abuse to Suffolk County police, who arrested the defendant on Nov. 8.
The man was convicted by a Suffolk County jury on Oct. 10, 2025, on charges of course of sexual conduct against a child, incest and endangering the welfare of a child.
On Wednesday, Judge Timothy Mazzei sentenced him to 23 years in prison, followed by 20 years of post-release supervision — a lengthy sentence that “reflects the gravity of the harm done to an innocent child,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.
“Today, justice has been served, not only for the victim, but for all children in our community who deserve to feel safe,” Tierney said.
