Long Island motorist with 80 license suspensions arrested

Police on Long Island have arrested and confiscated the car of a man whose driver’s license was suspended 80 times.

A Suffolk County cop initially pulled over the Toyota being driven by Walter Castilla Ochoa when he was “observed operating the vehicle without a seatbelt” around noon on Thursday.

But that’s when the officer realized the 45-year-old Huntington Station man had been hit with 80 different license suspensions on 13 separate dates.

His Toyota was impounded, according to Suffolk County police.

Ochoa has been charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, which is a felony in New York State. Cops said he’d spend night in jail Thursday before being arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Suffolk County police did not provide details on the nature of the license suspensions, which can occur for a number of different reasons. Those can include administrative issues like unpaid tickets or lapsed insurance, as well as major violations like driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault.
