Long Island synagogue vandalized in Hebrew by masked man

Nassau County Police are searching for a masked man who was caught on video vandalizing a synagogue late Wednesday night.

The man — who was wearing a white mask, black hoodie, dark-colored pants and black gloves — spray-painted the words “house of bullies” in Hebrew and references to religious texts in the parking lot of Young Israel of Woodmere in the Five Towns around 11:15 p.m., according to police.

The man then fled the scene heading south on Longacre Avenue.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers.

In April, the synagogue canceled a speaking appearance by far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir after a number of other synagogues declined to host him and Young Israel members called for a boycott.

“While shuls on the left and even on the right are refusing to give Ben Gvir a platform, the YIW is inviting him to speak,” former member Robby Berman wrote on Facebook. “Ben Gvir was so morally repugnant that Bibi [Netanyahu] refused to have his picture taken with him until he needed him to scrape by a coalition.”
