A Long Island teenager is accused of crashing his car into a family’s home in Woodmere, rendering the residence uninhabitable following the collision.
The 18-year-old motorist was driving a 2022 Kia when he lost control at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and East Broadway shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The unidentified driver then crashed into a house that was occupied by a family of four. None of the residents inside reported being hurt, while the driver suffered minor injuries, police said.
Town of Hempstead officials later deemed the home unlivable due to the damage it sustained. Photos obtained by CBS News appear to indicate the Kia badly damaged the home’s garage. Young children were reportedly seen being evacuated from the property. The car was covered in debris from the house it hit.
Several fire departments and Long Island power providers responded to the crash site, along with a Nassau County police emergency service unit.
Authorities said no criminality was suspected at this time of the crash, but an investigation is ongoing. The cause of the apparent mishap is unclear.
The collision occurred roughly 20 miles south east of Grand Central Terminal
