A 47-year-old man was found dead in a pool of blood with apparent head trauma in the bed of a city Parks Department truck on Randalls Island on Friday morning, police and sources said.
The gruesome scene was discovered near Bronx Shore Rd. and Central Rd. around 7 a.m., cops said. A Parks Department employee found the man covered in blood, with extensive trauma to his head and body, in the truck bed during a vehicle inspection in a closed-off parking lot, according to a police source with knowledge of the case.
EMS responded and declared the man dead at the scene.
He had a hospital bracelet around his wrist and did not appear to be a Parks worker, the source said.
Police are investigating.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the man’s cause of death.
His identity is being withheld until his family has first been notified.
