Man, 75, dead in East Village apartment fire


A 75-year-old man died in an apartment fire in the East Village Sunday morning.

The blaze broke out on the second floor of the six-story building on Second Ave. at E. Fourth St. about 10:20 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters found the victim dead inside the burning apartment. Two other people suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control about 11:10 a.m. Its cause remains under investigation.

The city medical examiner will determine the victim’s cause of death, cops said Sunday. His name was not immediately released.
