Man accused of shooting man outside van in Bronx ‘horn honking rage’ fight

An enraged man is facing attempted murder charges for shooting a 36-year-old man in the stomach during an argument over horn honking in the Bronx, police and prosecutors said.

Cops on Monday arrested Frankie Poventud for the Jan. 16 shooting at the corner of Concourse Village West and E. 156 St. in the Concourse section of the Bronx — a day after cops released an image of the shooter in the hopes someone recognized him.

Poventud was standing on the sidewalk near the corner when he began to complain about two brothers in a van that was honking, police sources with knowledge of the case said. The reason for the honking was not immediately clear.

The suspect began to argue with the siblings, then stormed up and kicked the side of the vehicle, cops were told. The two brothers immediately jumped out of the car, with the brother who was driving the van striking him with a heavy object.

A moment later, Poventud reached into his jacket and pulled a .357caliber pistol, cops said.

“I’m going to clap him!” he screamed as he chased the two siblings and opened fire, shooting the brother who was seated in the passenger side of the van in the stomach.

The brother he shot, Besart Ljukovic, wasn’t the one who had been honking the vehicle’s horn, officials said.

The siblings got back into the van and drove to Lincoln Hospital, where Ljukovic underwent surgery and has since been released.

“I’m doing better,” Ljukovic, speaking with obvious discomfort, told the Daily News in a brief phone interview. “Thank God, I’m alive.”

Cops recovered a single shell casing at the scene of the shooting.

Investigators also recovered surveillance images of Poventud, who was apprehended without incident on Monday and charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm and harassment.

Cops are still looking for a woman who was recorded with Frankie Poventud at the scene. (NYPD)

A Bronx Criminal Court judge ordered him held on $100,000 bail after his arrest. He’s due back in court on Friday.

Poventud lives in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, about two miles from where the shooting occurred.

Cops were still looking for a woman who was recorded with Poventud at the scene, but her role in the shooting was not immediately disclosed.
