A man has been arrested nearly three years after he strangled his 48-year-old father to death inside his Bronx apartment, cops said Thursday.
Essa Kouyate, 26, was apprehended by U.S. marshals last month in Washington State, where he was held in a Skagit County jail until his extradition to New York City this week for the murder of Yaya Kouyate, cops said.
Records show he was detained in Skagit County from Dec. 13 until Jan. 7. He was charged with murder at New York’s 42nd Precinct stationhouse on Thursday, cops said.
The victim was found dead on the bathroom floor of his apartment on Hoe Ave. near Jennings St. in Crotona Park East around 10:30 a.m. on April 14, 2023, police said.

Google Maps Police are investigating the death of Yaya Kouyate, who was found strangled in his Bronx apartment on Hoe Ave.
Marks were found on the victim’s neck and the city’s medical examiner later declared his death was from strangulation, according to law enforcement.
Essa Kouyate was living in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, a small town with a population of around 13,000, when federal officers caught up with him, cops said.
Yaya Kouyate came to the U.S. from Africa’s Ivory Coast around three decades ago, first obtaining work in the city as a cook before pivoting during the COVID lockdown to being an Amazon deliveryman and Uber driver, an uncle told the Daily News shortly after his death.
“He’s a good guy,” Abdoulaye Kouyate, 72, said. “I feel bad. I feel horrible.”
