A Philadelphia man has been arrested in the double shooting of two women during the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl victory parade on Friday, authorities said.
The victims were shot along Benjamin Franklin Parkway around 2:30 p.m. Both women were shot in their legs and transported to Presbyterian Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, police said 28-year-old Brandon Ramos was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The conflict arose from a dispute that broke out among some revelers who took to the streets of the City of Brotherly Love to celebrate the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX.
Chaos ensued after a 27-year-old woman and her boyfriend tried to cut the line to use a portable restroom near the 2300 block of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, not far from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Eakins Oval, where fans gathered to hear speeches by Eagles players and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker.
“[The woman’s] boyfriend was punched and a fight started between him and a group of males,” Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore told Fox Philadelphia.
“During the fight, someone fired a gun striking [her] in the right calf,” Vanore said, adding a second victim, a 20-year-old, was hit in her left upper thigh.
