A man who stole a car that was left idling with a 2-year-old toddler in the backseat Friday drove almost a mile away in Brooklyn before police nabbed him and reunited the boy with his panicked mother.
Cops received a 911 call from the terrified 32-year-old mom around 10:41 a.m. after she realized her car, which she had left running in front of a deli on Sutter Ave. in East New York with her young son inside, had been stolen, police said.
About 10 minutes later, police spotted the vehicle — a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder— near Liberty Ave. and Wyona St.
Police arrested Maurice Stephens, 34, in connection with the crime. Stephens, who has one prior bust for drug possession, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
EMS took the little kid to Brookdale Hospital for evaluation, where doctors determined he was unharmed and reunited him with his mother.
