Man arrested after trespassing at royals’ Windsor Castle

A man was arrested Sunday after trying to break in to the grounds of Windsor Castle, on which Prince William and Kate Middleton live with their young family.

The Thames Valley Police and Metropolitan Police — the latter of which is in charge of security for the royals — confirmed to the Daily News that a 30-something man “was arrested on suspicion of trespass on a protected site.”

Neither police department was able to answer whether the royals were home at the time of the attempted break-in.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was also arrested for possession of Class A drugs, a categorization that includes cocaine, crack, heroin, meth, ecstasy and LSD. It’s unclear whether the man was under the influence when the incident occurred.

“He was quickly challenged by Met police officers and arrested. He did not enter the inner grounds of Windsor Castle,” according to Thames Valley Police. “He was arrested on suspicion of trespass on a secure site and possession of class A drugs. He has been bailed and an investigation is ongoing.”

Trespassing on a protected site, which includes land belonging to the royal family, is a criminal offense under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.

Since 2022, William and Kate have lived on the grounds of Windsor Castle at Adelaide Cottage with their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were home when two masked intruders broke into the working Shaw Farm, near Adelaide Cottage, back in October. Authorities at the time said the suspects stole a vehicle, which they used to drive through a security gate.

Representatives for Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
