A South Florida man has been convicted of fraud after posing as a flight attendant to scam free flights from at least four different airlines over a period of six years.
Tiron Alexander, 35, was convicted on June 5 of multiple counts of wire fraud and entering the secure area of an airport under false pretenses, the Justice Department announced this week.
According to federal prosecutors, Alexander falsified employment records with seven different airlines and booked dozens of free flights that were reserved for pilots and flight attendants.
Between 2018 and 2024, he flew for free more than 120 times across four airline carriers in a “Catch Me If You Can”-style con, according to the feds.
When booking his free tickets online — a process that requires a pilot or flight attendant to provide their employer, date of hire and badge number — Alexander submitted roughly 30 fake badge numbers and dates of hire for seven different airlines, the Justice Department said.
Alexander had worked for a Dallas-based airline since November 2015, but not as a pilot or flight attendant, according to prosecutors. Southwest and American Airlines are both headquartered in Dallas.
Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 25. He faces a sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison on the combined charges.
