A man fell to his death during an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium in London Saturday night, authorities said.
The man was in his 40s but not yet publicly identified, according to London police. Investigators said he fell from the stadium’s upper deck onto a lower area.
“I was directly underneath in section 211,” a witness told the Guardian. “At first glance I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. It was horrific to see.”
Saturday night’s show was the fourth in a stretch of five straight Oasis reunion concerts at Wembley. Organizers said the final show on Sunday would go ahead as scheduled.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night,” Noel and Liam Gallagher said in a statement Sunday.
After an acrimonious split in 2009 and 15 years of feuding, the Gallagher brothers announced the Oasis reunion tour last year. The concerts began July 4 in Cardiff and are scheduled to continue through Nov. 23 in Sao Paulo.
The Gallaghers have planned only three U.S. dates: MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, and Soldier Field in Chicago. They are also set to return to Wembley for two more shows in late September.
Deadly falls at large stadiums are rare. In 2015, an Atlanta Braves season ticket holder plummeted to his death at the team’s former stadium, Turner Field. Four years earlier, a Texas Rangers fan fell to his death while trying to catch a ball at that team’s former park.
