Man riding stolen motorcycle killed in crash in Newark



A man riding a stolen motorcycle died Monday in a crash in Newark.

The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. when the motorcycle struck a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder that was making a left turn, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the rider lying on the ground after being ejected from the motorcycle following the collision.

The motorcyclist was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m. He has not been identified.

No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Officials said the motorcycle was unregistered and did not have lights, which may have contributed to the crash. No details regarding when it was reported stolen were released.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Newark Police continue to investigate.
