Police say they are looking for a man who smacked an MTA conductor Thursday.
Cops responded to a report of an assault around 7:25 p.m. at the Roosevelt Ave. subway station near Roosevelt Ave. and 75th St. in Jackson Heights where a 26-year-old male Metropolitan Transportation Authority conductor was slapped in the face by an unidentified man, police said. The blow sent the conductor’s glasses falling onto the train tracks as the attacker fled the scene.
Subway conductors operate the train’s doors and make announcements.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim was inside his conductor’s cabin on the train or had poked his head out of his window or was somewhere else inside the station at the time of the assault.
EMS medics treated the victim at the scene for an apparently very hard slap. He suffered dizziness and swelling to the right eye as a result of the attack, police said.
It was unclear if the incident was random. It wasn’t clear if any words were exchanged before the attack.
Assaults on an MTA conductor can carry up to seven years in prison on a second-degree felony charge.
