Man walking on NYC subway tracks fatally struck by train

A man walking on the tracks in a Manhattan subway tunnel was fatally struck by a train Tuesday, police and sources said.

The man was walking on the tracks in a tunnel near the 14 Street-Union Square station when an uptown-bound L train struck him around 7:45 p.m., cops and a witness said.

“He was right by the tunnel so the driver didn’t see him until it was too late,” said an MTA employee, who noted the victim did not appear to be homeless. “The train ran right over him.”

Medics called to the scene pronounced the man dead. His name was not immediately released.

There appears to be no criminality involved in the death, according to police sources.

L train service in both directions between 14 St-Union Square and Bedford Ave. in Williamsburg came to a halt as police investigated the incident.
