Mark Ruffalo reveals how he saved Woody Harrelson from bar fight

It was a hairy situation.

Mark Ruffalo has revealed how he once rescued Woody Harrelson from a boisterous bar fight while the pair filmed a movie together in Louisiana.

“We were shooting ‘Now You See Me’ in New Orleans, completely on the streets,” the “Avengers” star recalled during the episode of Harrelson and Ted Danson’s “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast released Tuesday, Oct. 14. “Totally wild.”

“Capturing stuff on a long lens, getting dragged into bars during the middle of a scene, like in the middle of Mardi Gras,” he added.

But the pair’s good time quickly took a turn for the worse when Ruffalo, 57, and Harrelson, 64, decided to pop into a crowded bar for a drink after a long day of filming the 2013 heist film.

“It was a packed place,” the “Task” star explained to Danson. “And a woman came up to him and she said, ‘Oh my God, I love you so much.’ Woody put his hand on her arm, and he said, ‘Oh, thank you. Thank you, darling.’”

“And this guy comes over and he pushes her outta the way,” Ruffalo continued, “and he shoves Woody.”

Danson, who has known the “True Detective” star since Harrelson joined the cast of “Cheers” in 1985, shook his head at this point in Ruffalo’s story.

“Oh, bad bad,” the “Good Place” actor muttered. “Not good.”

“Bad,” Ruffalo agreed. “Because Woody’s first response is not ‘shove someone back,’ but ‘immediately punch them in the face.’”

“Which is the right thing to do, by the way,” he continued. “It’s the absolute right thing to do. But then a whole melee broke out in this bar. I was in the middle of it, and it was getting to become a whole thing. And I grabbed you.”

Harrelson, who only laughed and nodded his head until this development, spoke up to corroborate his “Now You See Me” co-star’s recollection of events.

“I grabbed you and I pulled you out,” Ruffalo went on. “Because I was like, this could be fun, but it also could go so disastrously wrong because you and I might be able to handle ourselves, but the rest of the folks we were with… I don’t think so.”

Danson ultimately praised Ruffalo for saving Harrelson from what could have turned into something much worse for all parties involved.

“I’m embarrassed to say that I would’ve been the guy who said, ‘I’ll be right back, I’ll call someone,’” the “Man on the Inside” star joked, suggesting that he would’ve left his former “Cheers” co-star to deal with the bar fight all alone.

But this wouldn’t be the first time that Danson, 77, heard a story about Harrelson getting into a bar fight.

During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last year, the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alum revealed that Harrelson “got in a bar fight and was carjacked in the same day” when they first met 40 years ago.

“He is a whimsical creature,” Danson added of his podcast co-host at the time. “He’s astounding. He’s such a bundle of contradictions.”

As for Harrelson and Ruffalo, the pair recently reunited for “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” the third film in the “Now You See Me” franchise.

Set to release Nov. 14, the illusion-heavy threequel will also see the return of original co-stars Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Morgan Freeman.
