A massive five-alarm fire tore through a Bronx deli and the apartments above it early Monday, drawing Mayor Mamdani to the scene on his fifth day in office.
The blaze broke out in the building on Findlay Ave. and E. 170th St. in Claremont about 3:15 a.m., officials said. It too firefighters naerly four hours to bring the fire under control.
Mamdani visited the scene and briefed reporters on the blaze.
Firefighters appear to have been hampered by cars parked in front of fire hydrants, ABC 7 New York reported. The FDNY said 270 firefighters and medics responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Two people, including a firefighter, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Some residents who fled their homes were provided temporary shelter in a city bus.
