Mayor Eric Adams set to meet with White House as Trump’s top advisers float cushy gigs

Mayor Eric Adams is set to head to Washington, DC, next week for a White House meeting to discuss his future — as top aides to President Trump are weighing finding Hizzoner a cushy landing spot in the administration, sources told The Post.

“Eric Adams knows he can’t win [in November] and is exploring his options,” a source close to the mayor said of the impending meeting. “Does he want to be an ambassador? Sure, but that has to be appointed by the president and the president has not asked him.”

“The next step would have to be a formal conversation” with the president, the source said.

News of the impending sit-down came as Adams issued a statement Friday insisting that the mayor was staying in the race, seemingly responding to rumors that he was considering dropping his bid.

He reiterated that “no formal offers have been made.”

“I am still running for reelection, and my full focus is on the safety and quality of life of every New Yorker,” Adams said, adding, “I will always listen if called to serve our country.”

The Post confirmed earlier Friday that Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff — whom Adams met with in Florida earlier this week — was pushing for the president to nominate the mayor as the next ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The political calculus behind the seemingly outside-the-box deal would have Adams end his independent re-election bid as a way to consolidate ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s support, giving him a leg up in beating socialist Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani in November.

Sources with knowledge of the conversations said that no formal offer has been extended by the president.

Another faction of White House insiders would rather Adams stay in the race, seemingly securing a win for Mamdani and giving the GOP endless fodder to campaign against Democrats in next year’s midterm elections.

Adams is wrestling with whether he wants to step away completely and bank his current campaign war chest for a future return to Democratic politics or enter the Trump administration.

“Going into the Trump administration closes some doors,” the source said. “He would be tied to the Trump administration for better or for worse.”
