McDonald’s Monopoly game returning in October



McDonald’s is bringing back its popular Monopoly contest to U.S. restaurants next month, the fast food company announced Monday.

The game will feature both physical peel-off stickers and digital pieces that are stored in the McDonald’s app. The physical stickers must be scanned into the app before prizes can be redeemed.

The contest will run from Oct. 6 through Nov. 2, but game pieces will be valid until Nov. 23. The stickers are only available on 30 menu items, including the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, McMuffin sandwiches and large drinks.

Among the prizes are free food, digital gift cards, 1 million American Airlines miles, a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a trip to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a $1 million cash prize.

The company said players have about 1 in 5.25 odds to win food items — with odds of 1 in 107 to win rewards points that can be used in the app. Property pieces can be combined to win larger prizes.

“Our fans have been clamoring for the return of MONOPOLY at McDonald’s, and we’re thrilled to bring it back with a modern, digital spin,” said Alyssa Buetikofer, senior vice president, chief marketing and customer experience officer of McDonald’s USA. “This game is a core memory for so many customers, and we’re excited that those memories can now be shared across generations.”

McDonald’s began its Monopoly game in 1987 but discontinued it in 2015.

In the early 2000s, the FBI uncovered a ring of criminals who had rigged the game to win more than $20 million from the fast food chain.

Jerome Jacobson, a security official at the marketing company that ran the contest, would embezzle the big prize pieces and sell them. Prosecutors said Jacobson would charge $50,000 in cash for the $1 million game pieces.
