Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, made a desperate plea to his daughter from the hospital after he got his leg amputated in the Philippines.
Thomas, 81, begged the Duchess of Sussex, 44, to see him “one more time before I die,” according to his interview with the Daily Mail published Saturday.
He also said he wants to meet with Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, and their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, “before it’s too late.”
“Of course I want to speak to her [Meghan] but I am not sure if these are the right circumstances,” Thomas told the outlet. “I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her.”
“I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan,” the retired lighting director added. “I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too.”
Thomas also said he was “confused” to hear that Meghan reached out to him, after her reps confirmed to Page Six that the “Suits” alum contacted her father.
“I can confirm she has reached out to her father,” Meghan’s spokesperson said Friday.
Meghan’s rep has since clarified to the Daily Mail that she sent her dad an email, though the outlet reported that Thomas no longer uses that email account.
“Mr Markle is a VIP patient. Of course, we all know who he is,” a hospital source told the outlet. “If Meghan or anyone connected with her had called here, we would have known. It is a big hospital by Filipino standards but we all know each other and we all talk.”
‘We were all confused when we saw the story that the duchess had reached out to her dad,” the source continued. “As far as we are aware it didn’t happen. We would love to see the duchess here in the Philippines!”
Meghan’s sister, Samantha Markle, blasted the claims that Meghan reached out to their father.
“You’re also gullible,” Samantha, 61, wrote on X on Friday. “Believe it if he’s put on a private jet and put into one of the best hospitals in the United States for care. Until then don’t hold your breath. It’s likely a PR stunt because of public scrutiny.”
“Houston there’s been no contact… Time to stop the PR b******* Medusa,” she added in another tweet.
The Post has reached out to Markle’s rep for comment.
Thomas underwent a life-saving three-hour surgery at a Cebu hospital that ended with the bottom half of his left leg amputated.
“My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly,” Thomas Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail over the weekend. “I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”
“There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death,” Thomas Jr., 59, added.
Meghan has been estranged from her father since she married Prince Harry in 2018, when he suffered two heart attacks that prevented him from traveling from Los Angeles to London to walk his daughter down the aisle.
“We were always so close,” Thomas, who split from Meghan’s mother Doria when Meghan was 3, told Daily Mail in 2018. “Being shut out of her life is the biggest tragedy of my life.”
“I don’t understand what I did so wrong that she never talked to me again,” he added. “I have been upset at my daughter, I have been angry at her at times – but I have never stopped loving her.”
