Memorial Day people-watching features Malia Obama, Bella Cuomo


As traffic backlogged on 27 East and the beaches opened to iffy weather, the Hamptons were in full swing on Memorial Day Weekend. Coopers Beach in Southampton was celebrating — they have been named the Number 1 Beach in America by Dr. Beach.

In Southampton Village, on Saturday afternoon, chic clothing store Marina St Barth hosted a Mann About Town cover party for actress/author Leesa Rowland with Peter Thomas Roth, philanthropist Jean Shafiroff and Dan’s Papers doyenne Vicky Schneps.

On Monday, Cristina Cuomo and Purist Magazine hosted a Sip n Shop at trendy clothing store Johnny Was, as a benefit for the Southampton Arts Center.  The highlight was Cristina and Chris Cuomo’s daughter Bella, who graduated from Cornell the day before, who performed original songs and played guitar.  Purist magazine also sponsors the Arts Center’s upcoming gala, Whimsy Motown Magic, to be held June 28.

Meanwhile in East Hampton, customers were surprised to find England Patriots owner Robert Kraft helping Tom Brady behind the register, ringing up sales at CardVault. Folks clamored for the seven-time Super Bowl Champs’ signed helmets, along with CardVault collectibles as Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, CardVault co-owners Ed Kane, Randy Greenstein and Chris Costa as well as East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larsen looked on.

Friday night at hot spots Swifty’s, at the newly acquired Hedges Inn, was a who’s who of people-watching — Don Lemon, uber manager Jason Weinberg (Untitled Entertainment) and Malia Obama, were all in attendance.  Later, the 26-year-old writer-director and former First Daughter headed to Sag Harbor’s local dive bar, Murf’s for a round of darts.

Speaking of second generation power players, The Southampton Playhouse held their Season Kick-off on Saturday night and while Aby Rosen and Leon Black were in attendance — it was their sons’ show. Alex Black, CEO of Lyrical Media (President of the Southampton Playhouse) and Charlie Rosen, RFR Holding (Secretary) made opening remarks, along with Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX — before a screening of JAWS, converted to IMAX for its 50th Anniversary.

After the post screening party, Alex Black had some friends back to his newly acquired Halsey Neck Lane estate — the former home of Mica and Ahmet Ertegun.  One of Black’s upcoming projects, “The Death of Robin Hood,” stars Hugh Jackman — he is rumored to be on tap for a special event coming up this summer at the Playhouse.

Hamptons hot spot Arthur & Sons kicked off their second season with a visit from Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy Juvonen. The duo was on date night and dined on spicy rigatoni with “Artie’s garlic bread” and posed with the staff before leaving. Lorraine Bracco enjoyed a quiet dinner over the holiday as well.
