A 31-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver was killed by a motorist who blew through a Brooklyn red light and is now charged with manslaughter for the crash, police said Monday.
Arturo Alberto Baez Cordero was heading east on 9th St. in Gowanus when he was struck by a Honda Odyssey driver speeding north on Second Ave. about 6:25 p.m. Sunday, cops said.
Both vehicles then slammed into a Dodge pick-up truck stopped at the light.
The Mercedes caught fire, with firefighters reportedly having to extricate Baez Cordero from the car.
Medics rushed Baez Cordero to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he died about half an hour later, police said.
A 37-year-old passenger in the Odyssey was hospitalized in critical condition, police said. His relative, a 64-year-old man, was also in the minivan but was less badly hurt.
The Odyssey driver, Alexey Isanov, 38, was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment. He too was hospitalized.
The Dodge driver, a 49-year-old man, was hurt but is recovering.
There are 15 speeding and six red light tickets linked to the Odyssey, though records do not indicate who was behind the wheel when they were issued.
