Meredith Gaudreau, widow of Johhny Gaudreau, gives birth

Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of hockey star Johnny Gaudreau, announced the birth of her third child.

The baby was born last week, but Gaudreau made the news public Monday via an Instagram post.

“I had our third baby! 4/1/25,” she captioned a series of photos. Another baby boy. Carter Michael Gaudreau — same middle name as his daddy. 8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches — exact same as his daddy. He looks exactly like his daddy, too.

“I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.”

“We’re actually a family of five,” Meredith said during her husband’s eulogy. “I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby. A total surprise, but again, John was beaming and so excited.

“In less than three years of marriage, we’ve created a family of five. It doesn’t even sound possible. But I look at it as the ultimate blessing. How lucky am I to be the mother of John’s three babies? Our last one being a blessing and so special, despite these difficult circumstances.”

Johnny Gaudreau, a 31-year-old star winger for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and his 29-year-old brother Matthew Gaudreau were both killed last August after being struck by a drunk driver while biking in New Jersey.

Meredith Gaudreau originally announced her pregnancy during the brothers’ funeral service. The couple previously had daughter Noa, 2 and son Johnny Jr., 1.

Sean Higgins was indicted for the fatal crash. He reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .087 and failed a field sobriety test at the scene. He pleaded not guilty in February.

The birth of baby Carter comes after Madeline Gaudreau, Matthew’s widow, announced the birth of their first child, a boy named Tripp Matthew, in December.
