Mets’ Brett Baty day-to-day after leaving game with right groin tightness

The Mets have another potential injury to monitor.

Brett Baty left Sunday afternoon’s 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays with right groin tightness and is considered day-to-day, manager Carlos Mendoza said.

The Mets replaced Baty in the seventh inning with pinch-hitter Ronny Mauricio.

“We’re not doing any X-rays or [an] MRI as of right now,” Mendoza said. “Off day [on Monday]. We’ll see where we’re at Tuesday, but that’s what I’ve got right now.”

The tightness cropped up when the third baseman ranged to his right for a foul ball.

“I want to see how it feels tomorrow,” Baty said. “I think what we’re gonna do is just take it day by day, because something like this has happened in the past, and I responded well to treatment.”

Baty said the previous instance occurred two years ago on a stolen-base attempt.

“It was actually on my other side, but it was a similar motion, like stepping over and pushing off,” Baty said.

Baty’s early exit came a few hours after Mendoza said fellow third baseman Mark Vientos was set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Baty has made 27 appearances at third base and 22 at second base this season.

Baty went 0-for-2 before leaving Sunday’s game at Citi Field. He is now hitting .219 with eight home runs, 24 RBI and an .686 OPS in 160 at-bats.
