With the way the slugger has swung the bat this season, you couldn’t have drawn it up any better for Carlos Mendoza’s squad.
However, Alonso went down on strikes before Brandon Nimmo flew out to end the threat, leading to the Mets’ 6-5 loss on Sunday afternoon. The Mets couldn’t work their magic to avoid a rubber match on Sunday night.

The Mets’ bullpen held down the fort and kept them within striking distance. Genesis Cabrera tossed two scoreless frames while Huascar Brazoban, Austin Warren and Reed Garrett all combined for two shutout innings.
Tylor Megill will take the ball for Mendoza in the nightcap. The right-hander looks to continue his dominant season as he’s recorded a 1.74 ERA in six starts this season. Andre Pallante toes the slab for Oli Marmol’s club. Pallante is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA in six starts for the Redbirds
