Mets complete sweep of Rockies with homers from all 3 stars

The Mets‘ dynamic trio was out in action on Sunday afternoon.

Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso homered in the fifth inning while Juan Soto added a solo shot of his own in the eighth in the Mets’ 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. Lindor’s solo shot was his 13th of the season, while Soto added his tenth.

Alonso’s three-run blast was his 12th of the season. The slugging first baseman’s numbers have seen a bit of a drop in recent weeks as he is slashing .288/.384/.543 on the season

Soto still has yet to get going this season as his slashline sits at .233/.363/.429, however, the Mets are hoping his 388-foot blast is a stepping stone to the Soto they paid for.

Clay Holmes took the ball for Carlos Mendoza’s squad and turned in another strong performance. The right-hander tosses seven innings, allowing three runs while striking out three. The 32-year-old holds a 3.07 ERA in his first full season as a starting pitcher.

The Mets didn’t need much from their bullpen, however, Reed Garrett tossed a scoreless eighth, while Edwin Diaz registered his 13th save of the season to close the game out at 5-3.

The Amazin’s wrapped up a successful homestand — including the Dodgers and White Sox as opponents — as they went 7-2 in their nine-game stretch. Granted, the White Sox and Rockies have combined for just 27 wins this season.

The Mets will now head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers on Monday to begin a four-game set with the defending World Series champions. Paul Blackburn will take the ball for his season debut against Yoshinobu Yamamoto for Dave Roberts’ club,
