The Mets sent down infielder Luisangel Acuña amid a flurry of roster moves Monday.
Acuña, a 23-year-old rookie, was hitting .241 with a .576 OPS and should receive more regular playing time at Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets had largely deployed Acuña as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement of late. He’s received only 18 at-bats in June.
Acuña’s demotion came a day after the Mets optioned another prized young player, catcher Francisco Alvarez, to Triple-A to continue his development with more regular playing time.
Monday’s moves also included the Mets signing left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady to a one-year MLB contract and adding him to the active roster.
Lovelady has a 5.26 ERA over 110 career appearances with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays.
The Mets also called up outfielder Travis Jankowski and optioned right-handed reliever Tyler Zuber to Triple-A.
