Michelle Williams is thanking her surrogate for “the miracle of our little girl” after quietly welcoming her fourth child earlier this year.
After months of speculation, the Oscar nominee confirmed on Monday that she and her husband, Thomas Kail, welcomed a baby girl.
Williams — who already shared two children with Kail, as well as her oldest child with late actor Heath Ledger — revealed the news while giving a special shoutout to her surrogate.
“I’ve got to give a big shoutout to Christine, ’cause this last baby did not come through my body,” Williams said during an interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” which Tiffany Haddish was guest hosting. “The miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. … Thanks to Christine, I have three under 5 at home.”
The Emmy winner went on to reflect on juggling her acting career with three little ones at home.
“It’s good. It’s just really busy and I’m trying to figure out the work-life balance,” she said. “I hear that a lot of people are talking about self care and I’m just wondering, ‘When?’ Because I’m a working mom and I already have the guilt and I don’t want to take more time away from them. But I understand that I need to fill up the tank.”
The “Dying for Sex” star also admitted that having multiple children has changed her perspective on work.
“When you have small children, you become thoughtful about the time you spend away from them,” she said. “So I don’t work a ton, but I still want to work.”
The 44-year old welcomed her first child, Matilda, in 2005, just a little over two years before Ledger was tragically found dead at the age of 28.
In 2020, Williams and Kail, a director and producer, tied the knot after meeting on the set of the FX miniseries “Fosse/Verdon.” They welcomed their son, Hart, later that year, and another child in 2022.
Williams previously spoke about her struggles with balancing her love for acting with her love of family.
“My heart obviously belongs to my children; they tug at it the most,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2023. “But I really want to be able to have both. And I think that it requires deep thought and learning and the support of other women to figure out how to get through it.”
