Her beauty isn’t only skin-deep.
A Miss Universe contestant has been praised for flaunting her skin condition ahead of the international beauty pageant, which is set to take place Saturday night.
Logina Salah, a 34-year-old model representing Egypt, has vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder that results in a loss of pigment to areas of the skin.
She also suffers from lupus, another autoimmune disorder that causes the body to mistakenly attack healthy tissues or organs.
According to Jam Press, her conditions have not deterred her from participating in the Miss Universe competition, where she hopes to make history should she take home the crown.
The Alexandria, Egypt, native, who is also a mother to a 10-year-old daughter, has become a skin positivity advocate online, where she boasts 1.8 million Instagram followers and another 1.2 million on TikTok.
Salah, per Jam Press, was a professional makeup artist as a result of her skin condition, which she felt like she needed to hide. But, after being tired of living a “double life,” she stopped covering up her complexion and has since become a proponent of the skin positivity movement.
When announced as the Miss Egypt delegate for the Miss Universe competition — a contest that has faced scandal and controversy — fans fawned over her beauty and confidence in the Instagram comments.
“Stunning!” wrote one person. “The first ever delegate to win with a rare skin condition! A true epitome of INCLUSIVITY!”
“The most beautiful and real inclusion,” someone else said.
“Tremendous courage and resilience,” another chimed in. “What a great example and lesson she is leaving humanity and that makes it beautiful. Go Egypt.”
