A former singer for the hit vocal group The Platters has been found at a New York City hospital five days after going missing, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Sandra Hall, 80, was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday at Atlantic Terminal Mall in Brooklyn.
Hall, who has dementia, disappeared after separating from her caretaker, slipping through a turnstile at the Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center subway station and boarding an uptown 2 train, her family said in a statement.
“She just hopped on, and by the time my niece, her caretaker, was able to get her bearings, the train had already gone,” her daughter, Kahtia DaSilva, said before Hall was found, according to CBS News.
DaSilva expressed deep concern about her mother’s whereabouts, saying the family didn’t know where she’d been sleeping or what she’d been eating.
The New York City Police Department asked for the public’s assistance in locating the former singer.
On Wednesday, DaSilva confirmed that her mother had been found at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Emergency personnel located her in the same area where she was reported missing, the Daily News has learned.
Hall is reportedly doing well, DaSilva said.
Formed in the early 1950s by the late bass singer Herb Reed, The Platters became one of the most successful vocal groups of the ’50s and ’60s, scoring more than a dozen U.S. Top 10 hits, including “Only You (And You Alone)” and the R&B-pop classic “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.”
Hall joined the group in 1965 and sang with them for about four years, performing under the stage name Sandra Dawn.
A spokesperson for the group did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday afternoon.
