A young mother and her baby were blasted in their faces with an unknown substance while riding an M train in Queens by a stranger apparently irate that the woman earlier had refused to let him borrow her phone, police said.
The 25-year-old woman and her 11-month-old daughter were sitting on a southbound M train around 11 a.m. when an unidentified man stomped up to them and sprayed the woman in the face and arm with something as the train approached the Court Square-23rd St. station, according to police. Some of the substance also hit the baby girl in her face and arm.
Afterward the suspect ran off the train at the station.
EMS took mom and daughter to Mount Sinai Queens hospital where they were in stable condition.
The woman told police that before she boarded the train a few stops north, the suspect had approached her and asked if he could use her cellphone. After she declined, they had no further interaction until he sprayed her on the train — apparently having followed her there from the station.
Police are investigating. So far no one has been arrested.
